Modern Mudroom Design Reveal! -One Room Challenge Fall ‘21

18 weeks later and I FINALLY FINISHED my modern mudroom design! I was worried for a minute there that I’d have to sign up my Mudroom project for the Spring One Room Challenge as well, luckily there was no need 😂

I still can’t believe that I started this while on Maternity leave and got the majority done while in that time frame with 2 kids under 2. Looking back, I still don’t know how I got so much done, but I’m so grateful for the time I had to do it before I started work again.

What I Used to Build This

The majority of my built in hall tree was made from scraps and left over paint. I used left over shiplap and trim & left over Behr paint in Dark Secret that I used for my husbands man cave. I also already had all of my supplies & tools, so really the only thing I needed to spend money on was wood for the floating cubbies!

Cost of the DIY Cubbies

I used Birch Plywood for the cubbies as I knew I would be staining them and wanted a nicer wood finish. So in total for that I probably spent around $150 for wood. And the total cost of the built in hall tree was probably closer to $500. When we were building our home, our builders quoted us around $3000 to build an area like this. Absolutely mind blowing that I saved that much money! And to think that all they would’ve done is painted it plain white. I was able to get my modern mudroom design dream for WAY cheaper than $3000!

Paint Colors

This project was also a challenge for me to become more comfortable with paint and being creative with color. I felt like this wall was the perfect place to do so. The colors also tied in nicely with the black.

I used Behr’s Sunwashed Brick for the top and Behr’s Shiny Kettle for the bottom. I mixed those two colors to create the middle color.

But what’s the main thing I want you to take away from reading this?? That we are capable of doing Hard Things! I’ve only been doing DIY for one year and I never would’ve thought that I could build cubbies or use a power tool, but here I am conquering the unimaginable and creating this modern mudroom design! You can do whatever you set your mind to. It’s time to start creating your dreams ✨
